Global Literacy rate
Global Literacy rate
Overview
Most of the global population over the age of 15 is literate, which represents a significant advancement in education worldwide. This map illustrates literacy rates across the globe, highlighting that many countries have achieved literacy rates exceeding 95%, a notable recent accomplishment. However, despite these gains, substantial inequalities remain.
When the team received this project, they aimed to create data presentations as beautiful as leaves in a flower, engaging people to read and understand the information. We know the data is straightforward, primarily showing global literacy rates with a focus on countries with the lowest literacy. However, the visuals should be compelling enough to convey a sense of hope. Despite the low literacy rates, we want to inspire optimism, much like a flower that is growing and will soon blossom into beauty. We hope that with time, the percentage of literate individuals in these countries can increase.

For instance, in several countries in sub-Saharan Africa, literacy rates are alarmingly low, with less than one-third of adults possessing the ability to read and write. These disparities underscore the ongoing challenges in achieving universal literacy and the need for targeted educational interventions in the most affected regions.
